En este simple video les trato de aclarar algunas dudas que a la mejor algunos tengan acerca de estos terminos/acronimos
Mucha gente al tratar de descargar un SO se topa con terminos como CTP, RC, RTM, RETAIL, OEM etc y no tiene idea de cual debe escojer asi que de forma muy seca aqui les explico que significan
CICLO DE VIDA DEL DESARROLLO DE UN SO
CTP (community technology preview) = Son mas que nada lanzamientos de cada actualizacion entre versiones beta para usuarios que quieren ir analizando el desarrollo del producto final
Beta (versiones de prueba) = muchas veces gratuitas que expiran despues de cierto tiempo, con las que se planea obtener bugs/errores en el software a modo de repararlos antes de la version final , algo asi como una retroalimentacion previa
RC (release candidate) = Version candidata a ser lanzada como version final, se le hacen un par de pruebas mas para asegurar la calidad hasta que alguien da la luz verde para que sea lanzada al mercado
RTM (release to manufacture) = Esta es la version RC que es lanzada como version final

otras versiones que podrian confundirlos:
version OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) = versiones completas vendidas a fabricantes de computadoras para ser instaladas en nuevos equipos
version UPGRADE = es mas barata sirve para instalar el software sobre un software pasado que ya se tenga o hacer una instalacion nueva
version RETAIL = basicamente es la version que sale al publico en general se podria decir que es lo mismo que RTM
version MSDN(MicroSoft Developer Network) = para desarrolladores de software, basicamente esta version es para que los desarrolladores de software prueben sus programas en las nuevas platformas y arreglen problemas de compatibilidad etc antes del lanzamiento oficial

Recuerden que el SO en si, tambien puede vernir en varias versiones, tengan eso en consideracion:
home basic = version introductorio que contiene lo basico y minimo necesario al nuevo sistema
home premium= version windows para usuarios promedio
proffesional= version windows para usuarios exigentes con opciones avanzadas de redes, ser anfitrion de un RDP etc
enterprise= version de windows diseñada para empresas grandes
ultimate= contiene lo mismo que las demas versiones pero tiene la habilidad de utilizar varios idiomas entre otras cosas
